Happy New Year! Looking back on January!

Happy New Year! It is hard to believe it is already 2017. I am looking forward to rest of the school year here at KISJ.

During January's Guidance Classes, we talked all about Personal Safety and Child Protection.

Some of the things that are covered during this unit include:
- Recognizing Safe and Unsafe situations/objects (including pill bottles, sharp objects, fire, etc.)
- Your Body Belongs to You (reinforcing the ability to say 'No' if you don't want to be touched or hugged)
-The Touching Rule (No one should touch parts of your body that are covered by a bathing suit (private parts) unless they are keeping you healthy)
- Reporting (telling a safe adult if someone hurts you or touches your private parts)

While these topics are not always easy to talk about, they are important to discuss. Unsafe situations can happen anywhere, to anyone, at any time. Knowing what to do when you come across an unsafe situation can help you protect yourself and others.

Talk to your child about what it means to stay safe!
